About Us

Chris Chavez loves track & field. That’s why he launched CITIUS MAG as a passion project in 2016 while writing and editing full-time for Sports Illustrated. Over the ensuing five years, Chris got to cover the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, honed his reporting chops, and grew a humble blog into a slightly less humble multi-pronged media company. In 2021, he made CITIUS MAG his full-time pursuit.

Prior to his six-year stint at SI – like so many born-and-raised teenage New Yorkers – Chris heeded the siren song of the American hinterland and headed to Milwaukee to attend Marquette University. As an undergrad, the baby-faced media personality worked for both ESPN and Sporting News, and interned for Flotrack.

Chris has completed all six of the World Marathon Majors and is an aspiring sub-five-minute miler. He is convinced that with the perfect training block and the right Kelly Clarkson song blaring through the speakers at the Armory, he can do it.

Father. Husband. Son. Newsletter writer. Friend. 3:52 miler. Bridge and tunnel guy. Businessman. World record holder (okay… in the DMR). Prolific poster. Kyle Merber is many things. And as of 2021, he became Chris’s partner in all things CITIUS, too.

From a preposterously early age, Kyle has lived and breathed track & field. Not just as a fan, but as an elite athlete ascending from the high school, to college, to professional ranks. After hanging up his spikes – but never his running shoes – Kyle pivoted to the media side of things, where he shares his enthusiasm, insights, and experiences with subscribers of The Lap Count newsletter, as well as viewers of CITIUS MAG live shows.

When not serving up track & field takes, you can probably find Kyle taking a Strava crown on a Westchester County bike path, playing with his daughter Laoise, or watching obscure Irish sports on television that even his wife, Patricia – who is Irish – doesn’t follow closely.

Mac, who possesses one of the best runner names of his generation, lived up to the billing as a two-time NCAA 1500m champion and eight-time All-American as an Oregon Duck. He went on to run professionally for seven years, and after a “Terrelle Pryor-type career – a college stud but underwhelming NFL backup who sort of hung around” – Mac dabbled in coaching before joining CITIUS in 2022 and taking over the rapidly growing video side of the operation.

San Diego-born and raised, he has returned to the promised land – if San Diego was your hometown, wouldn’t you, too? – where he soaks up the perfect weather and hates on New York with his wife and pet pig.

Regularly the main character of running Twitter, David began contributing to CITIUS in 2018, and quickly cemented himself as an integral part of the team thanks to his quick wit, hot takes, undying love for the sport, and willingness to get yelled at online.

As a podcaster-writer-reporter-poster, David is as close to a multi-hyphenate as we have on staff. And in his spare time, it’s likely he’s logging miles along the Charles River in preparation for an OTQ attempt, baking, having a coffee (black) or a beer (hoppy), or being an absolute menace during the pop culture segment at bar trivia night.

When Jasmine joined the CITIUS crew in early 2022, she immediately made the other accomplished athletes on staff look like absolute chumps. A silver medalist at the 2015 World Champs in Beijing in the 4 x 100m relay, Jasmine still competes at the elite level in the long jump for Tracksmith and brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm for the sport as a whole, but particularly the jumps and sprints to CITIUS’s event coverage.

A San Diego native, Jasmine went to high school in Chandler, Arizona, went on to become an Oregon Duck, and has since returned to San Diego – can you blame her? – where she lives with her dog Jordan, and enjoys painting and playing her crystal singing bowls.

Katelyn came aboard just ahead of the 2022 U.S. Outdoor Championships in Eugene, and made her mark right away – some of the summer’s most memorable sound bytes came as a direct result of Katelyn’s questions, and to this day, and she led the charge on some of our favorite longform athlete conversations. Currently competing for the University of Kentucky, Katelyn previously set school records and garnered DIII All-American certificates at Ithaca College. She is also a member of the World Athletics Content Creator Program and an alum of The Magic Boost.

Born and raised in Chicago, Katelyn now splits her time between Lexington, Kentucky, and the Washington, D.C., area, and has ambitions of joining a gospel choir – something you better hope most of the other members of the CITIUS crew do not attempt.
