Amazon Prime Documentary Coming On Faith Kipyegon's Attempt For The First Women’s Sub-Four Minute Mile

June 6, 2025

Box To Box Films (the makers of Drive To Survive, SPRINT, Full Swing, and Break Point) are working on Breaking4: Faith Kipyegon vs. The 4-Minute Mile in partnership with Nike for Amazon Prime Video.

The two-part documentary series will follow the three-time Olympic champion and world record holder's attempt to become the first woman to break four minutes for the mile on June 26th in Paris. Kipyegon currently owns the women’s mile world record at 4:07.64 from 2023. Here’s what was announced about Kipyegon’s attempt in April.

Per the company's release, the film "will provide unprecedented access to Kipyegon’s life and training in Kenya, and the cultural impact of her historic pursuit for both elite and everyday athletes." It will be directed by Suemay Oram, who directed the Stolen Gold ESPN 30 for 30 documentary about the 2000 Paralympics basketball scandal.

Part I of Breaking4 will drop on June 20th. Part II will come out in July, following Kipyegon’s race.

Academy Award-winning producer James Gay-Rees and Emmy-winning producer Paul Martin will serve as executive producers on the project. Martin was a guest on the CITIUS MAG Podcast when promoting the release of SPRINT in 2024.

It was also announced that Breaking4 (the race) will be available to stream and watch live on Amazon Prime Video and Nike's YouTube channel on June 26, 2025, beginning at 1 p.m. ET.

No details have been shared by Nike yet on whether Kipyegon’s attempt will be world-record-eligible. When the brand staged a sub-two hour marathon attempt for Eliud Kipchoge in 2017, it was not record-eligible due to a rotating cast of pacemakers.
