Olympic champion Karsten Warholm clocked the fourth-fastest 400m hurdles performance in history with a 46.51 to win the Monaco Diamond League.
What you need to know:
– The race was billed as a clash between Warholm and world champion Alison dos Santos for just the first time since last year’s world championship final. Warholm got out to an aggressive start from the gun and never faltered. Dos Santos was racing the hurdles for the first time since undergoing knee surgery in February. Dos Santos struggled over the final two hurdles but still ran 47.67.
– Team USA’s CJ Allen finished third in 47.84.

The first round of the men’s 400m hurdles at the world championships will be Sunday, Aug. 20. The final is slated for Aug. 23.
