2024 U.S. Olympic gold medalist Quincy Wilson has announced his commitment to compete at the University of Maryland next year, he announced Monday, November 24 live on the CITIUS MAG YouTube channel.

The 17-year-old high school superstar from Maryland had narrowed down his final choices to Texas A&M, South Carolina, Maryland, USC, and UCLA. Currently, Wilson is in his senior year at the Bullis School, where he’s won six high school national titles in the 400m and 4x400m.

Here's what he said following his announcement:

“I chose the University of Maryland of all the other schools because it’s close to home. There’s nothing like being close to my family. There’s nothing like being able to run for your hometown. It’s been great. I started my legacy in 2024 at the summer Olympic Games and I have the whole city behind me with 2028 coming. I want to have the whole city behind me and I’m ready to do it for the University of Maryland.”

Wilson currently holds the U18 world record of 44.10 in the 400m, which was the seventh-fastest time in the world this year. In 2024, Wilson finished sixth in the 400m at the U.S. Olympic Trials to secure a spot on Team USA as part of the 4x400m relay pool. At the Paris Olympics, Wilson competed in the heats of the men’s 4x400m, which would go on to win gold in the final.

Wilson will head to the University of Maryland under head coach Andrew Valmon, staying in the same state where he competed and attended high school. which Coach Valmon is himself a two-time Olympic champion on the 4x400m, also serving as head coach of Team USA at the 2012 Olympics. Wilson will be an instant star for the university, as his high school personal best is over two seconds faster than the current 400m school record of 46.17.

Should Wilson complete all four years of college before turning pro, he would graduate in the Class of 2030, finishing his sophomore year just before the Olympic Trials for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
