Junior coaching is a bit of a balancing act. If you do it right, your time with the kids in the program makes up a very small part of their athletic career, but those years are so formative and important for establishing a potentially lifelong love of the sport. While watching a junior practice in Guelph recently, I noticed that while there were provincial and nationally-ranked competitors training all out. The interactions between all teammates was ones that you would expect out of people that age…that is to say, they were clearly having fun.
On this week’s show, we look at the junior programs and chat with the coaches, Rachelle Campbell (sprint) and Jeff Haller (distance) as well as assistant coach Joe Chappell and some of the kids involved in the program.
This week’s episode will also appear on the Terminal Mile podcast feed so subscribe on iTunes there.
